Key concepts: Postcyberpunk, global warming, smuggling, rapid technological change, conflicting legal regimes
Setting: The Pearl River Delta region, in Southeast China, in the year 2050-ish. Nonlinear effects in the global climate system, including methane clathrate release from Siberian permafrost and ocean-floor deposits, has caused a series of catastrophic events - global average temperatures are +6°C compared to the 2000 baseline; the WAIS has pretty much collapsed, along with a beginning melt-off of the Greenland ice cap, and the two have together caused a sea-level rise of approximately five meters; extreme weather events are quite common.
The Pearl River Delta Special Economic Zone is host to an economy that's mutating and growing at an incredibly rapid speed.
The PCs are smugglers/import-export specialists operating out of the Pearl River Delta region, transporting goods in a discreet manner to and from the PRC, the Indonesian Caliphate and its breakaway states, the successor states of the Former Phillipines, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Japan... Some of them illegal, some not yet illegal, some just of shady origin.
